Russia wants to export ammonia bypassing Ukraine

The Russian company “Uralchem” hopes to open a terminal for the export of ammonia on the Taman Peninsula.

The Russians complain that they cannot export ammonia through the pipeline through Ukraine due to sanctions. This is reported by Reuters.

Russia plans to complete the first stage of construction of the ammonia terminal at the end of 2023. According to the Russians, at the first stage the Taman terminal could handle 1.5 million tons of ammonia per year, and by the end of 2025 – 3.5 million tons of ammonia and 1.5 million tons of urea.

In March, USM wrote that the Russian Federation had started construction of its first ammonia transshipment terminal, which was previously carried out through the Ukrainian port of Pivdenny. At the same time, Russian experts emphasized that the terminal will most likely be launched only in the second quarter of 2024.

We will remind you that in 2021, the Russian Federation was the largest exporter of fertilizers. It was followed by China, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Egypt.

Since the beginning of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the terrorist country’s fertilizer exports have fallen by 10-15%. In general, the refusal of Western countries to buy Russian fertilizers cost Uralchim more than 200 million dollars. In particular, the ship Asian Majesty with a cargo of 60,000 tons of potassium has been idle in the open sea near Riga since March 2022.

Despite the statement of “Uralchim” about the development of new logistics routes, the Russian Federation is still trying to “attach” the issue of the operation of the Tolyatti-Odesa ammonia pipeline to the Black Sea Grain Initiative.
