UZ will expand the capacity of the railway to the port of Izmail
JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” is considering projects to improve the capacity of the Izmail station.
Railway workers and representatives of the agricultural market held an online meeting on June 22, Rail.insider. reports. During the meeting, the growing accumulation of rolling stock heading to the Izmail station was discussed.
Currently, more than 2,000 wagons are moving there. At the same time, the average daily unloading rate is approximately 100 wagons per day.
As Ivan Yemets, deputy director of the Odesa Railway regional branch of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia” for logistics and work with ferries, noted, the UZ is currently considering projects to expand the carrying capacity of the Izmail station. First of all, we are talking about the districts of Artsyz-Izmail and Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi-Izmail.
The option of electrification of the Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi-Izmail section is also being considered. They intend to start its implementation already this year.
“The number of trains that can enter the Izmail station is currently a maximum of nine. So there is enough capacity to bring trains there. But the development of the “New” park of the Izmail station itself is insufficient,” Ivan Yemets clarified.
He noted that they intend to complete the construction of the 8th and 9th tracks here.
“At the Izmail station itself, we are planning two more tracks of the sorting park, the arrival park. But that’s already for next year. Next year, we plan to expand the mouth of the station, more precisely, the “Novyi” park, and build exhaust track No. 13, which will make it possible to work on the supply to the port separately from the supply to the approach track of “Nibulon”, which will also increase processing. We believe that for now this will be enough to increase the processing capacity of the station from the side of the railway,” the deputy director of the regional branch emphasized.
He added that not everything depends on the railway. After all, two operations are going on simultaneously on the tracks: unloading and loading.
“Unloading must increase to 400-450 wagons so that we can accept this flow. And the increase in unloading is also the track development of the port. We have planned the measures from our side and will carry them out,” said the representative of the UZ.
Ivan Yemets noted that some projects are currently in the development process. Behind them, pre-project work and preparation of materials for submission to Ukrzaliznytsia for consideration continue.
According to Valery Tkachev, Deputy Director of the Department of Commercial Work of the UZ, in order to increase transshipment, it is also necessary to build additional warehouses for grain storage in the port of Izmail, that is, investments from the business side are needed.
We will remind that despite the increase in the volume of grain unloading at the port of Izmail, the situation there has been tense for a long time.
