Development of the Bystre estuary will help increase grain exports by 1 million tons per month
Development of the Bystre estuary on the Danube River will give Ukraine the opportunity to increase the export of agricultural products by 1 million tons every month.
In order to find new reserves to increase grain exports, Ukraine will have to develop the mouth of Bystre, the Ukrainian channel to the Black Sea.
This will make it possible to increase exports via the Danube by 1 million tons to the existing 2.2-2.3 million tons per month, said Deputy Minister of Infrastructure Yurii Vaskov, Interfax-Ukraine reports.
According to Vaskov, such an infrastructural solution will not have any negative consequences, but will only benefit all countries through which the Danube flows.
In addition, the deputy minister emphasized the need to organize the 24-hour operation of the Romanian channel Sulina – currently it works only 17 hours a day, which slows down the pace of work.
Also, a key issue in increasing exports through the Danube is the organization of raid transshipment in Romanian waters. Ukraine needs to agree on this issue with Romania, but if there is political will, it can technically be resolved within a week.
USM previously reported that Ukraine will soon start consultations with the European Commission, Romania and member countries of international environmental conventions on the issue of dredging the Bystre estuary.
