The UN offers Russia to extend the Grain Agreement in exchange for access to SWIFT
UN Secretary General António Guterres proposed to Russian President Putin to extend the Grain Agreement in exchange for the connection of a subsidiary of Rossilhospbank to SWIFT.
On Tuesday, July 11, Guterres sent a letter to Putin proposing ways to promote Russian exports of food and fertilizers and ensure the continuation of Black Sea supplies of Ukrainian grain, Reuters reports citing its own sources.
“The goal is to remove obstacles affecting financial transactions through Rossilhospbank, which causes serious concern on the part of the Russian Federation, and at the same time ensure the continuation of the flow of Ukrainian grain through the Black Sea,” UN spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters.
He did not provide any details on the proposal, but added that Guterres is cooperating with all interested parties on the issue and is ready to continue discussing his proposal with Russia.
