The ancient boat found on Desna was recreated in 3D
Experts, together with archaeologists, created a 3D model of a boat found by fishermen in Desna near Chernihiv.
“The find may belong to the Dovbanak fishing boats that traveled on the Desna and Dnipro rivers from the 18th to the beginning of the 20th century,” the Facebook page of the Center for Archeology and Ancient History of the Northern Left Bank reported.
The boat was partially cleared to make a graphic and photogrammetric fixation of the object. This is necessary for its further identification.
They also created a blueprint, took measurements and created a 3D model with an orthophoto plan.
According to archaeologists, it was not possible to trace the bottom of the watercraft because it is located below the level of the river. A slope of up to 5 meters overhangs the boat, so further work was stopped.
After the fixation was completed, the boat was filled with river sand.
They also separately took samples for C14, which can help with dating. These vessels used to be 8 to 12 m long and up to 2 m wide and could be used for commercial fishing.
