Latvia is ready to transport Ukrainian grain by rail
Latvian Railways (LDz) can help Ukraine with grain transportation by rail.
Already in the fall, LDz sees an opportunity to engage in the transportation of Ukrainian grain, “European Truth”reports with reference to the chairman of the board of the company Rynalds Pliavnieks.
Previously, he was skeptical about the possibility of transporting Ukrainian grain by rail in transit through Latvia.
“Until the summer of this year, I was completely skeptical about this issue and believed that it was impossible on an industrial scale,” commented Pljavnieks.
He explained that in such transportation, two transshipments must be carried out. At the same time, the technological capabilities of logistics and transshipment have developed sufficiently, so the process can be much more efficient.
Pliavnieks noted that now there is an opportunity to transport Ukrainian grain. According to his estimates, it will be possible to transport approximately 500,000 tons to 1 million tons of Ukrainian grain through Latvia in a year.
