Baltic Container Terminal in Gdynia will export Ukrainian cargo
The Baltic Container Terminal in the Port of Gdynia (BCT) has launched a direct intermodal connection for the export of goods manufactured in Ukraine.
For this, BCT has started cooperation with the logistics operator Fortis Logistics Group and Multimodal Solutions&Services, writes Rail.insider.
BCT currently accepts trains with containerized cargo, mainly corn, grain and meal. The 600m route trains running between Slavków and Gdynia currently consist of 22 80ft SGGRS wagons and 44 40ft containers.
The connection started with three trains a week, now their number has increased to six. Ukrainian agricultural products are delivered to Slavkuvo, where they are reloaded into containers and sent to Gdynia and further around the world. Currently, the terminal, together with partners, is also working on improving the flow of import transportation to Ukraine, using already existing connections.
It is noted that the use of BCT as a transshipment point for containerized Ukrainian cargo is a serious alternative to the mass transit of Ukrainian agricultural products through the territory of Poland. Containers are loaded directly onto sea vessels that regularly call at the terminal.
