“Odesa Container Terminal” helped HHLA increase container turnover in the first half of 2026

The state-owned company “CTO”, owned by the German HHLA, showed an increase in transshipment in the first half of 2026, while the group’s overall container turnover decreased.

This was reported by USM with reference to the HHLA report.

According to the results of January-June, HHLA handled 2.95 million TEU, which is 6.7% less than in the same period last year.

At the same time, the group’s international terminals increased transshipment by 4.6% – to 170 thousand TEU. HHLA noted that the growth was facilitated by the strong results of the state-owned company “CTO”.

However, the blockade of ports since July is likely to hit CTO’s transshipment hard. HHLA has not commented on the work of the Odesa terminal in recent months.

HHLA has been operating the Odesa container terminal since 2001 and owns it through the group’s structures. The company calls CTO the largest container terminal in Ukraine.

HHLA’s total revenue in the first half of the year increased by 3% to €910.9 million, but operating profit EBIT fell to €51.3 million compared to €79.4 million a year earlier.

In the container segment, EBIT fell by almost 60% to €17.2 million due to increased personnel and energy costs, as well as the modernization of terminals in Hamburg.

HHLA previously reported an increase in international container turnover by 21.5% in the first quarter of 2026, in particular due to the work of the KTO SE.
