Idle ships in Odesa region ports: UGA called on the government to intervene

The Ukrainian Grain Association called on the government to intervene in the situation, due to which ships are forced to idle in the ports of Great Odesa.
Participants of the grain market reported the unjustified delay of ships loaded with grain for export in the ports of Great Odesa. Such delays cause losses to both farmers and the state budget, reports the Ukrainian Grain Association.
Each day of delay of ships loaded with grain in ports leads to losses at the level of $1-1.5 per ton of products per day.
“If we take a Handysize ship with a tonnage of 50,000 tons as an example, then the losses for the exporter due to the delay of the ship in the port are worth $50-75 thousand per day, which the exporter is forced to pay to the ship owner. In addition, insurance costs for such vessels are increasing due to their stay in Ukrainian ports,” the association notes.
UGA also emphasizes that such delays of ships in ports are in no way related to weather conditions or navigation. The association called on the government to intervene in the situation caused by officials at the regional level, stop the arbitrary delay of ships and unblock grain exports as soon as possible.
