The IMO Assembly approved the appointment of a new Secretary General


The Assembly approved the decision of the IMO Council to appoint Arsenio Antonio Domínguez Velasco as the new Secretary General of the organization.

Thus, the 33rd session of the Assembly of the International Maritime Organization (IMO A-33) will last until December 6 in London, USPA reports.

On Friday, December 1, it became known that the Assembly approved the decision of the IMO Council to appoint Arsenio Antonio Domínguez Velasco as the new Secretary General of the organization. He will begin his duties on January 1, 2024, and his term of office will last until December 31, 2027.

The assembly is expected to approve the strategic plan for the six-year period from 2024 to 2029, the budget and the organization’s work program for 2024-2025.

In addition, a new 40-member IMO Council will be elected for the biennium 2024-2025.
