Blocking the Polish-Ukrainian border has become a problem in the Baltic states

The business of the Baltic region suffers as a result of the blocking of checkpoints by Polish carriers.

Recently, the ambassadors of Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia expressed dissatisfaction with the fact that the problem of blocking the border has not been solved for a long time. Poland also understands this situation, as this problem is emphasized not only by the Baltic countries, but also by other countries.

“For us, the issue of the Ukrainian-Polish border is very important, as all humanitarian and business cargo passes through the Polish-Ukrainian border. If there is no solution to this problem, then going to Slovakia, Hungary or Romania means more time, more money,” Latvia’s ambassador to Poland Juris Poikans told Ukrinform.

As the ambassador noted, despite the fact that the protesters promised not to detain humanitarian cargo, such situations did occur.

For Latvian business, the Ukrainian market, in the conditions of the loss of the Russian and Belarusian markets, is important, trade between the parties is growing, there is a mutual interest in the development of business cooperation.

“When the cargo sits for 3 or 4 weeks, it is not normal. We need to solve this issue, we need to support Ukraine. We understand the problem of Polish carriers, but we should solve the problem through negotiations, not by blocking the border,” the ambassador said.

Poikans emphasized that everything in Europe is always solved by compromise and he sees readiness for such a compromise on the part of Kyiv. In this context, the allocation of one checkpoint by the Ukrainian side, where empty Polish and European trucks can cross the border, is positive.
