The Shipping Register will conduct research on board the “Noosfera”

The Shipping Register will work with the National Antarctic Science Centre. As part of the cooperation, research is planned on board the icebreaker “Noosfera“.

On Wednesday, December 20, the Shipping Register of Ukraine and the National Antarctic Scientific Center signed a memorandum of cooperation, the NASC Facebook page said.

The memorandum envisages joint research on board the “Noosfera”.

“As you know, “Noosfera” is currently the only ice-class scientific vessel of Ukraine. Therefore, it is important not only to use it for polar research, but also to study the experience of operating an icebreaker in difficult Antarctic conditions, in particular glaciation. This will help improve the use of other vessels in similar conditions, as well as improve the training of Ukrainian shipbuilding students and sailors,” the scientific center noted.

The behavior of metal structures, mechanical installations, machines and mechanisms, navigation and radio equipment in polar conditions will be studied on the icebreaker. Based on the obtained results, the Register will be able to improve its Rules of classification and construction of ships and maintain the Fund of current documents in a modern state.

At the same time, the Register will provide NASC with up-to-date information on the requirements for ships in polar waters. This will make it possible to maintain the technical condition of “Noosfera” in accordance with the highest global standards.
