A Russian sonar spying on submarines was found in Lithuania
In Lithuania, a Russian hydroacoustic sonar for the detection and localization of submarines was found on the coast.
The sonar was discovered on the Curonian Spit in Lithuania, the Lithuanian Army reports.
On February 3, the Lithuanian Navy received a message from a member of the public who found a device with Russian inscriptions on the bow.
Experts identified the device as a hydroacoustic sonar manufactured by the Russian Federation, which is used to gather intelligence and determine the location of submarines.
The device is no longer in use. It is now stored in the Navy warehouse.
Similar Russian hydroacoustic sonars were found in 2021 in the Baltic Sea, off the coast of Lithuania, as well as in the Atlantic Ocean, in the south, off the coast of Great Britain and Ireland,
