The French government calls for an end to imports of Russian LPG
In this way, France will be able to achieve “energy independence” and set an example for other European countries.
The commission of the French Senate to investigate the activities of the oil and gas company TotalEnergies recommended that the state facilitate the cessation of Russian LNG imports. “Ukrinform” writes about this.
For this purpose, the state is proposed to own a certain share in the capital of the energy group — given the threats to the energy sovereignty of France and Europe and the change in the structure of TotalEnergies shareholders.
“It is recommended to put France in a leading position… by offering to include Russian liquefied natural gas among the energy products under European sanctions and to set an example by stopping its import to France as soon as possible,” the commission’s report says.
Experts also advise the government to influence TotalEnergies so that it adheres to “climate commitments and France’s foreign policy guidelines.”
As USM previously wrote, Italy gained independence from the Russian LNG.
