The man demanded $3,400 from a seaman, pretending to be an employee of the Shipping Administration

The intruder, under the guise of an employee of the Shipping Administration, promised to issue the seafarer’s qualification documents for a bribe.

A 41-year-old resident of Izmail was detained while receiving an illegal benefit, the police of Odesa region reported.

The suspect promised the sailor to influence the decision of representatives of the State Qualification Commission. Now the man faces up to eight years in prison with confiscation of property.

The police and SBU discovered that the e-mailer had nothing to do with a local firm authorized to provide services for issuing documents for seafarers.

He demanded $3,400 from the sailor for the confirmation of the navigator’s and radio operator’s diplomas.

Currently, the police are identifying other persons who may have been involved in the crime.
