The national transport model of Ukraine has been updated: what is known

The updated National Transport Model of Ukraine includes TEN-T and inland waterways.

This was reported by the project manager, Adnan Rahman, in an interview with “Interfax-Ukraine”.

We are talking about the EU project “Support of Ukrainian authorities in the development of the National Transport Model and Master Plan”.

After the project was updated, the Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-T) and the networks of inland waterways of Ukraine were included.

“We added all internal waterways of Ukraine to the model. All locks are also included, which is very important because it is the locks that determine shipping capacity and routes. Now the model can be used to analyze flows, mainly cargo, inland waterways. What is strategically lacking is information about transport costs,” the project manager shared.

It should be noted that the National Transport Model of Ukraine (NTMU) was developed as a tool for planning investments in the transport sector of Ukraine. The project is implemented with the financial support of the EU. The aid amounts to more than 4 million 699 thousand euros, and the implementation period is specified until October 31, 2024.

Reference. Ukraine joined TEN-T in 2017. According to the Indicative Investment Plan of the European Commission for the development of the TEN-T corridors, by 2030, projects worth 4.45 billion euros are planned to be implemented in Ukraine. This is the highest indicator among all the states of the EU’s “Eastern Partnership”.Previously, USM reported that the Trade Union of Marine Transport Workers of Ukraine stated that the National Transport Strategy needs to be revised.
