The EU is interested in expanding the Eurogauge to Odesa, Kyiv and Lviv

The European Union is interested in expanding the European standard railway network in Ukraine – connecting it with Lviv, Kyiv and Odesa.
This was stated by the Director General for Mobility and Transport of the European Commission Magda Kopczynska, writes Forbes.
In the future, the EU sees several railway routes that will connect Poland with Kyiv, as well as central Europe through Uzhgorod with southern Ukraine and Odesa.
The European Commission emphasizes that new transport projects are planned with security in mind, because the infrastructure must not only be built, but also protected.
Magda Kopczynska recalled that after 2022, the EU expanded the TEN-T transport network and included Ukraine in it, in particular, routes to Odessa. The Solidarity Routes played a major role in this, which helped Ukraine export goods after the blockade of seaports.
The EU also emphasized the need to develop border infrastructure, inland waterways, seaports and, in the future, Ukrainian airports after the opening of airspace.
It should be noted that Ukraine is actively developing the Eurorail for integration with the TEN-T (trans-European transport network): the first section Chop – Uzhgorod (22 km, 1435 mm) was opened on September 5, 2025 with the support of the EIB (€28.6 million). The next stages – Mostyska II – Lviv (Sknyliv) and other corridors are to open in the coming years.
