Bulk carriers freight rates from Ukrainian ports have increased

The freight rates of “handysizes” and “coasters” in deep-sea ports have increased somewhat.

As a result of last week, the freight rates of “handysizes” increased. This was reported by ASAP Agri analyst and Atria Brokers freight broker Pavlo Lysenko.

Thus, the cost of freight of “handysizes”, which transport corn from deep-sea ports to the east coast of Italy, has increased by 2 USD/t and is now 23-24 USD/t. The increase was due to an increase in orders for the transportation of grain cargoes.

The owners of “koster” managed to raise rates by 1 USD/t on all routes thanks to constant demand. The freight of “kosters” transporting corn from Ukrainian Danube ports to the east coast of Italy increased to 28-30 USD/t.

Panamax freight rates remain stable. Shipowners are trying to raise prices, but the lack of a sufficient number of orders from the ports of Great Odesa makes it difficult. Freight rates for panamaxes carrying corn or wheat to southern China are at the level of 48-50 USD/t.

The barge market continues to remain unattractive for shipowners due to the limited amount of cargo from Ukrainian Danube ports. Currently, the cost of transporting corn from Reni or Izmail to Constanta is 9-10 EUR/t.
