The modernized UDS ship covers more than 200 km per day (video)
Despite the low water on the Danube and difficult navigation conditions, the motor ship “Captain Antypov” with a barge caravan travels more than 200 km per day.
This was announced by the head of the Ukrainian Danube Shipping Company, Dmytro Moskalenko.
According to him, after the September flood, the water on the Danube is low again. During this period, it is necessary to drive the barge caravan as carefully as possible. But even under difficult navigation conditions, “Captain Antypov” with a caravan covers more than 200 km per day.
“Caravans with non-modernized vessels usually travel 90-100 km,” the head of the UDS emphasized.
In turn, Captain Mykola Fedorov shared that the new modern Mitsubishi engines are used only at 25% and have a huge reserve of power.
“Giving more gas and going too fast in shallow water is dangerous. According to preliminary data, fuel savings per flight can be up to 15%.
Lubricant consumption is 2-3 times lower. Thanks to the higher speed and operation in the 3C mode (three shipmasters on the ship), the flight time can be reduced by 1.5-2 times,” the message says.
The grain caravan is currently moving downstream.
“The team will be able to truly feel the advantages of the new engines on the return trip, when Kapitan Antypov will return to Serbia upstream with a cargo of iron ore raw materials,” said Captain Mykola Fedorov.
The UDS emphasized that economy, lack of downtime, a higher turnover ratio of the caravan very significantly reduces the cost of transporting a ton of cargo. The goal of UDS fleet modernization is to achieve high profitability even at low freight rates.
USM previously reported that at the end of October, the first modernized vessel of the UDS became operational. Meanwhile, work on the modernization of the second vessel of the same type – Fedir Riabinin – continues at the ÖSWAG shipyard.
