Former MP from the opposition party simulated the consequences of a rocket attack to hide the theft of grain worth over 23 million UAH

A man ordered the “delivery” of rocket fragments and scattered them around the warehouse to hide the theft of export soybeans worth over 23 million UAH.

According to the investigation, the suspect, a former MP from the opposition party, is the beneficial owner of a company that was engaged in freight forwarding and transshipment of grain cargo, the National Police of Ukraine reported.

Before the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, his company began loading soybeans for export. However, due to military operations, the work was suspended, the ship with the cargo remained at the pier, and the crew was evacuated.

Later, the deputy decided to seize the grain: he transported over 1,500 tons of soybeans to a warehouse in the port, organized the scattering of rocket fragments (delivered to him by unidentified individuals) near the warehouse, and filed a police report alleging the destruction of the products as a result of shelling. This was supposed to release him from his obligations to counterparties and provide grounds for reimbursement of the cost of the cargo through the court. In fact, he appropriated and sold the grain.

Based on the evidence collected, the Deputy Prosecutor General informed the deputy of suspicion of fraud committed on an especially large scale in a preliminary conspiracy by a group of persons (Part 3 of Article 27, Part 4 of Article 190 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine). The official faces up to eight years in prison.

The issue of choosing a preventive measure is currently being resolved. The police are continuing the investigation to identify the full range of persons involved in the fraudulent scheme.

USM previously reported that officials of a Ukrainian holding are building a factory for Russian ships.
