Russia has decided to turn the captured Ukrainian submarine “Zaporizhzhia” into a museum

The invaders have completed the dock repair of the submarine Zaporizhzhia, the only submarine of the Ukrainian Navy captured during the occupation of Crimea in March 2014.

Preparations for the re-equipment began back in 2024, when Zaporizhzhia was docked at the Sevmorzavod shipyard for repairs to the underwater part. The Center for Investigative Journalism повідомляє reports this.

It is expected that after the completion of the work, the submarine under the old Soviet designation B-435 will be moored in the Sevastopol Bay as a museum.

The Project 641 submarine was built in 1970 at the Admiralty Plant in Leningrad. After the division of the USSR Black Sea Fleet in 1997, it went to Ukraine and remained the only submarine of the Ukrainian Navy.

In 2019, the Russian Defense Ministry twice announced a tender for the disposal of the boat, but later abandoned these plans. According to former Chief of Staff of the Russian Navy Viktor Kravchenko, Zaporizhzhia is currently the only Project 641 submarine at the disposal of the Russian fleet.

Also, the day before, USM wrote that the Russians scrapped a vessel that had been stealing grain.
