The Transport Committee of the Verkhovna Rada again proposes to divide the Ministry of Development

The Ministry of Development is proposed to be divided by separating the central executive body for transport and infrastructure from it.

A corresponding appeal will be sent to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko, the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Transport and Infrastructure reported.  

During the committee meeting, those present discussed issues related to the transport sector, in particular the state of the road industry, the preservation of roads, railways, seaports, the development of checkpoints on the state border, improving road safety and transport safety, etc.

First Deputy Minister Development Alena Shkrum also informed the people’s deputies about the functioning of the transport industry and the work plans of the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine for 2026.

As part of the consideration of conceptual proposals for improving the management structure in the transport sector, the members of the Committee discussed the issue of the advisability of separating the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine and separating from it the central executive body for transport and infrastructure.

“Following the results of the discussion of the issue, the Committee adopted a decision on the advisability of separating the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine by separating from it the central executive body for transport and infrastructure and sending an appeal to the Prime Minister of Ukraine Yulia Svyrydenko with a proposal to consider this issue at a government meeting,” the committee noted.

We will remind, in November 2024, the Transport Committee of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine already proposed to the Cabinet of Ministers to divide the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories into two ministries.

As previously reported by USM, in December 2022, by a resolution of the Cabinet of Ministers, the Ministry of Infrastructure was renamed the Ministry of Community, Territorial Development and Infrastructure of Ukraine (abbreviated as the Ministry of Reconstruction). At the same time, the Ministry of Community and Territorial Development of Ukraine was joined to the MIU.

Already in September 2024, the Cabinet of Ministers renamed the Ministry for Development of Communities, Territories and Infrastructure. Since then, the department has been called the Ministry for Development of Communities and Territories of Ukraine.
