Russia Plans to Organize Military Convoys to Protect ‘Shadow Fleet’ — Bloomberg

Russia is studying the possibility of organizing military convoys, as well as attracting armed groups to protect tankers flying the Russian flag.
Bloomberg writes about this with reference to the statement of the former Secretary of the Security Council of the Russian Federation Nikolai Patrushev.
According to Putin’s aide, “ensuring the security of maritime trade is necessary at any time.”
“Political, diplomatic and legal measures to counter the Western campaign against Russian shipping are not always effective. In the event of new threats at sea from European countries, additional measures will be developed,” he said.
Patrushev also added that Russia “has a whole range of security measures to protect shipping,” for example, inspections of ships arriving from abroad.
According to him, Moscow’s priority is to expand the national merchant fleet and reduce dependence on the transportation of cargo under the flags of foreign states.
Earlier, USM reported that Russian shipyards continue to use foreign equipment.
