US imposes sanctions on Chinese refinery and 40 shipping companies for buying Iranian oil

The restrictions are part of a broader Washington strategy aimed at increasing pressure on Iran’s energy sector and limiting its oil export revenues.
The United States announced the introduction of sanctions against a Chinese oil refinery and about 40 shipping companies involved in the transportation of Iranian oil. This was reported by the US Treasury Department.
The sanctions targeted companies that provided supply logistics – from the transportation of raw materials by tankers to its further processing. Particular attention was paid to the Chinese refinery, which, according to US estimates, played a key role in receiving Iranian oil.
The new measures also come against the backdrop of an escalation of the situation around the Strait of Hormuz and the de facto blockade of Iranian ports by the US Navy.
