Russian drones attacked a German vessel near Odesa

The ship lost the ability to maneuver, a fire broke out on board, and the crew was evacuated.

The German dry cargo ship Emil was damaged by a Russian drone attack in the Black Sea near Odesa. This is reported by the German publication DW.

The attack occurred on August 5, when the ship was approximately 21 nautical miles from the port of Odesa. The bulk carrier was hit by several Russian drones, after which some of the technical systems failed, the ship lost the ability to maneuver, and a fire broke out on board.

The crew began evacuation. During the evacuation, another drone hit the ship. Previously, the crew members were not injured.

Emil flies the flag of Liberia, but is owned by the Hamburg shipping company Johann M. K. Blumenthal. There were no German citizens among the crew members.

Another ship damaged in the attack was the dry cargo ship Mera Queen, which was carrying grain under the Guinea-Bissau flag. One crew member was killed in the attack.
