Kallas supported a moratorium on strikes in the Black Sea

The EU High Representative said that Russian attacks on grain ships could cause another shock to global food security.

Russian attacks on grain ships pose a threat to food security worldwide and must be stopped. This was stated by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaia Kallas, according to Ukrinform.

“I support initiatives for a moratorium on strikes in the Black Sea,” she said.

The foreign ministers also continued their discussion of helping Ukraine prepare for winter amid Russian attacks on energy infrastructure.

Although the EU supports Ukrainian grain exports through alternative transit routes, as well as grain storage in Ukraine, Kallas admitted: “there is no substitute for grain transported by sea.”

“For four years in a row, Russia has tried to freeze Ukrainians in order to subdue them, but it has failed. Ukraine has kept its cities functioning by protecting, repairing and replacing its energy infrastructure. We need to prepare Kyiv for another harsh winter,” Kallas said.

She thanked member states that have already pledged new funding to the Energy Support Fund for Ukraine, as work continues to replenish the reserve of spare parts for energy equipment and generators.

Also, the day before, USM reported that the Romanian Foreign Ministry said it supported the transit of Ukrainian grain.
