Russia attacked the route to the Danube ports: UZ warns of 26 days of waiting

Russia damaged the Bilhorod-Dniester bridge in the Odesa region, which significantly limited Ukraine’s ability to deliver grain to Danube ports.

The company did not specify when exactly the bridge was damaged and how serious the damage is. At the same time, it was noted that since the beginning of the full-scale war, the facility has been subjected to Russian attacks almost every week.

Due to strikes on the Black Sea ports, a significant part of the cargo flow, including grain, was reoriented to the Danube direction.

Cargo can be sent to three Ukrainian ports on the Danube via the damaged bridge or via the territory of neighboring Moldova, where transit opportunities are limited.

According to Ukrzaliznytsia, about 3 thousand wagons with grain are currently heading to Danube ports for further export.

If traffic across the bridge is not restored, the minimum waiting time for wagons will be about 26 days.

“The situation is very difficult. We are working on restoring the Bilhorod-Dniester Bridge,” a company representative said.

Since the beginning of September, about 118 thousand tons of grain have been transported by rail to the Danube ports.

Another 346.2 thousand tons of agricultural products were transported for export via land border crossings with Eastern European countries.
