In Sulina, the commission will start vessel registration an hour earlier

The Sulina Canal has changed the schedule for the clearance of vessels going out to sea: the commission at mile 36 will now start work at 08:00 — an hour earlier.

This was reported by Avalon Shipping Operations Manager Kateryna Kononenko.

According to her assessment, with the current queue, even one additional hour of work can allow about one more vessel to be released from the canal daily. In monthly terms, this is potentially about 30 additional vessels.

In parallel, the procedure for vessels entering the Sulina Canal has been changed. From now on, all formalities will be carried out directly at the Sulin roadstead. Previously, this practice was used in 2022–2023 as an option for shipowners, but now it becomes mandatory.

This should reduce dependence on the availability of berths in Sulin, reduce the number of unnecessary maneuvers, and allow more vessels to be cleared during the day.

At the same time, vessels will no longer be able to replenish their fresh water supplies during clearance. If necessary, additional maneuvers with a pilot can cost about $2-4 thousand.

 Kononenko previously reported that about 70 ships were waiting at Sulina, and for ships heading to Reni, Izmail, and Orlivka, the waiting time was 12-17 days.
