Grain exports by rail across the western border increased by 68% in September

As a result of the Russian Federation’s attacks on port infrastructure, about 83% of grain export shipments by rail fall on western border crossings.

In the three weeks of September, 1.025 million tons of grain were transported by rail in all modes of transport. This was reported by the representative of Ukrzaliznytsia Valeriy Tkachov, Elevatorist writes.

This is 19.3% more than in the same period in August, but almost 38% less than last year. The average daily grain load was 47.5 thousand tons – 21% more than in August, but 28% less than last year.

603.5 thousand tons of grain were transported in export traffic, 419.2 thousand tons in domestic traffic, and 2.25 thousand tons in transit.

Sea routes continue to lose volume. To the Danube ports of Izmail and Reni, 132.2 thousand tons of grain were transported, which is 28.8% less than last month. To the ports of Great Odesa, only 25.6 thousand tons, or 53% less than in August.

In contrast, export shipments to western border crossings increased by 67.9% to 503.4 thousand tons. This is 203.6 thousand tons more than in August.

According to Tkachev, western border crossings are currently the main route for rail exports of Ukrainian grain. This route accounts for about 83% of export grain shipments by rail.
