The port of Constanta handled 8 million tons of cargo, the share of Ukrainian grain was less than 7%.

The Romanian port of Constanta handled 8 million tons of cargo in two months, and only 550 thousand tons were Ukrainian grain.

This was reported by AGRIColumn expert Cesar Gheorghe, Latifundist reports.

About 550 thousand tons of Ukrainian transit grain have passed through the port of Constanta since the beginning of the season, while the port’s total cargo turnover during this period reached about 8 million tons.

According to Gheorghe, since July 1, about 8 million tons of cargo have passed through the port of Constanta. Of these, 7.3 million tons were of Romanian origin, about 550 thousand tons were Ukrainian transit grain, and the rest were cargo from Moldova.

“To pass 8 million tons in two months and one week is an extremely high result, considering that the port of Constanta has only about 2 million tons of simultaneous storage capacity. That is, the cargo turnover was exceptionally efficient,” Gheorghe noted.

Romania is currently developing its own wheat exports. The country has already supplied more than 3.5 million tons of grain to foreign markets.

Romanian wheat FOB Constanta quotes are currently at $287-290/ton. On the physical market, wheat delivered to the port is being offered for about €235/ton, and grain with 12.5% ​​protein is up to €240/ton.

Gheorghe does not expect further significant price increases, as countries in the Southern Hemisphere with large volumes of grain are entering the world market.
