In the Black Sea, a drone hit a grain ship, it may sink


The Turkish ship Royad Mammadov, which was carrying grain, was hit by a drone in the Black Sea.

This is reported by the Romanian newspaper Ziua de Constanța.

The incident occurred outside the territorial waters of Romania. According to the newspaper, after the attack, Romanian services launched a search and rescue operation.

The Romanian Agency for the Rescue of Human Life at Sea ARSVOM reported that on October 5 at 10:37 the Maritime Coordination Center MRCC requested assistance in connection with the situation on the Royad Mammadov. The SAR Apollo, SAR Artemis and SAR Ares rescue vessels, as well as a helicopter, were sent to the incident area.

The Romanian maritime administration ANR confirmed that this was a serious maritime incident outside the country’s territorial waters.

According to preliminary information from the ANR, the captain of the ship was injured and initially there was no contact with the 13 crew members. Later, Ziua de Constanța reported, citing its own sources, that ten sailors had been rescued. Three injuries were also reported.

According to the latest data from the publication, the ship may be sinking. The rescue operation is ongoing.

Official Romanian services did not specify the cause of the incident in the reports cited. The information about the drone strike and the grain cargo was reported by Ziua de Constanța itself.

UPD. Romanian authorities said that two people died as a result of the incident, Reuters reports.
