Ukraine plans to increase agricultural exports through German ports

Ukraine and Germany discussed the possibilities of increasing exports through the German ports of Hamburg and Rostock.
Support for Ukrainian agricultural exports and the development of alternative logistics were discussed during a meeting with the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Germany to Ukraine Boris Ruge and the Agricultural Attaché Yvonne Hall, the Ministry of Agrarian Policy and Food of Ukraine reports.
“In September, Ukraine exported almost 2.5 million tons of agricultural products – 46% of the required volume. Under current conditions, this is actually the maximum capacity of alternative routes,” the ministry noted.
The restriction of Ukrainian exports also puts pressure on world food prices. This is especially felt by the countries of North Africa, the Middle East and Asia, where food prices have already increased.
At the same time, the delivery of Ukrainian grain to remote European ports adds about 50 euros per ton, which in many cases makes exports economically unprofitable.
“We need to find a mechanism to compensate for the additional cost of logistics within the EU. If such a mechanism is found, we can potentially increase exports to 1 million tons per month,” Taras Vysotsky emphasized.
In particular, the parties discussed:
• opportunities for increasing exports through the German ports of Hamburg and Rostock;
• development of railway and other alternative logistics;
• transit of Ukrainian agricultural products through EU countries;
• the possibility of accelerating border procedures;
• participation of Ukrainian business in Grüne Woche 2027 with the support of GIZ;
• holding a joint Ukrainian-German panel within the framework of GFFA 2027.
Boris Ruge confirmed Germany’s interest in the stability of Ukrainian agricultural exports and the search for additional opportunities to support alternative routes.
