Odesa joins the Black Sea marine litter control program
Odesa joined the international environmental program Black Sea Interreg, which is aimed at preventing pollution of the Black Sea.
This was reported by the press service of the Odesa City Council following a meeting in the Odesa Regional State Administration.
The program also involves the countries of the Black Sea Basin – Turkey, Bulgaria, Greece, Georgia, Romania.
“This project has an important mission – waste and marine litter management, prevention of new litter formation. The mayor (Gennady Trukhanov – ed.) Noted that this is a very important and timely initiative, given that today, within the framework of the cyclical economy, we consider waste as a resource,” the message says.
The program is funded by the EU. In 2021, the program participants will focus their efforts on environmental monitoring of the Black Sea and minimizing the impact of various economic projects on the ecological state of the sea.
