An electric cable will be laid in the Black Sea to bypass russia

The European Union plans to allocate funds for an electric cable that will connect Georgia and Azerbaijan with EU countries.

The Black Sea cable will supply electricity from Azerbaijan and Georgia to the countries of Eastern Europe. The laying of the power line was agreed on December 17 in Bucharest. The European Commission will allocate part of the money for the electric cable. The total cost of the project has not been disclosed, Bloomberg reports.

“Since the beginning of the russian invasion, we have decided to move away from russian fossil fuels and diversify towards reliable energy partners, and it is working,” said Ursula von der Leyen.

“The Black Sea electricity cable is a new transmission route full of possibilities, as it can also help deliver electricity to our neighbors in Moldova, the Western Balkans and, of course, Ukraine,” added the head of the European Commission.

After the completion of the construction of the line, the export of electricity to Europe will increase to 11.6 billion cubic meters per year, said the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.

For its part, Georgia will build a power cable with a length of about 1,195 kilometers. It is reported that the line will transmit up to 1 gigawatt of electricity.
