Freight rates on the Danube hover around €30 per ton

Since the start of the “Grain Initiative”, freight rates on the Danube have fluctuated at the level of €30 per ton.

“As for rates, after the launch of the “grain initiative” they fluctuate in a rather narrow range. At the level of €30/t for heavy grain,” Vladyslav Bielakh, Deputy Director of Economics and Finance of “Ukrainian Danube Shipping”, said in an interview with Latifundist.

He also noted that the UDP did not push the rates up and did not drive up the market, as some mistakenly believe, but revised the rate in accordance with the market situation.

“How about another way? Selling at half the price so someone would speculate on our freight? But we have never been and are not interested in the spot, even if it shows too high stakes,” emphasized Vladyslav Belakh.

He also added that UDP has removed the practice of working with intermediaries and is interested in systematic cargo flows, cargo owners and long-term transportation contracts.

It will be recalled that during the first week of operation of the ports of Odesa since the opening of the blockade, the price of freight on the Danube fell by 10-20%.
