A cargo ship caught fire in the Black Sea: the captain died


In the evening of December 20, a fire broke out on a cargo ship in the Black Sea.

The fire started in the superstructure of the Beata vessel. The dry cargo was on its way from the port of Constanta in Romania to the Turkish port of Trabzon.

Firefighters extinguished the fire. Boats of the coast guard and the port administration of Sinop (Turkey) were also involved in the operation.

There were 17 crew members on the dry cargo. It was possible to save 16 sailors: among them there are four wounded, one is in serious condition, reports SeaNews Turkey.

The authorities of Sinop also reported the death of the ship’s captain.
