A tanker heading to Russia broke down near the coast of Turkey


The Panamanian-flagged tanker Elijah, which was traveling from Spain to Russia, broke down off the coast of the Turkish island of Gökçeada in the Aegean Sea.

The information was shared by the Main Directorate of Coastal Security of Turkey.

“The 185-meter tanker named Elijah, which suffered engine failure off the coast of Gökçead while en route from Spain to Russia, was towed by our tug and safely anchored in Bozjaad,” the statement said.

Other captains who operated other vessels in the same area were also informed about the malfunction that occurred on the vessel. It is currently unknown whether the tanker has cargo on board.
