The head and inspector of one of the border service departments of the Izmail border detachment are suspected of organizing a corruption scheme.
The chief and inspector of one of the departments of the border service of the Izmail border detachment were informed about the suspicion of receiving an illegal benefit, the Odesa regional prosecutor’s office said .
According to the investigation, the head of the department organized a criminal scheme to extort money from employees, encouraging them to receive bribes from representatives of agency companies for a simplified inspection of ships.
The “tariff” was $100 for a sea vessel and $50 for a river vessel arriving or departing from Ukraine across the state border. So, for one shift, subordinates had to “bring in” up to $2,000.
The suspect received funds directly or through his accomplice, the inspector of the department. The border guards were detained after receiving another tranche of fines.
The law enforcement officers documented the receipt of $3.4 thousand by accomplices.
The suspect was chosen as a preventive measure — detention with an alternative to bail.
