Britain is developing a system to identify grain stolen by Russia

Ukraine, together with Great Britain and Lithuania, is developing a project to determine the origin of grain that Russia supplies to world markets.

This is reported by the Ministry of Agrarian Policy of Ukraine.

A system of chemical grain analysis is being developed in Britain.

“Lithuania, for its part, has already expressed interest in applying such an analysis in order to be able to identify Ukrainian grain stolen by Russia and to prevent its transshipment through Lithuanian ports,” the message reads.

The parties discussed the technical issues of the grain origin determination system and implementation mechanisms in practice.

It should be noted that the next tripartite meeting is scheduled for July.

As previously reported by USM, the Minister of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs of Great Britain Mark Spencer has already proposed to identify stolen Ukrainian grain using chemical identification.

Also, Great Britain regularly approves sanctions against the Russian Federation aimed at “dubious persons and organizations” that may be related to the theft of Ukrainian grain.

For example, in May 2023, Britain applied sanctions against 24 organizations and individuals involved in grain theft. Among them are Powell Shipping Co LLP and the State Grain Corporation (GZK) and its director Nikita Busel.
