“Companies must insure dockers in the ports of Ukraine,” said the head of MTWTUU
Currently, dockers in the ports of Ukraine also face the problem of insurance. Some private companies refuse to insure workers.
The head of the Trade Union of Marine Transport Workers of Ukraine Oleg Hrygoryuk said this in an interview with Transportarbetaren.
According to him, the government is currently conscripting 50% of Ukrainian dockers into the army, while allowing the other half to remain at their workplaces. Defense forces send lists of people they want.
“But in the situation in which we found ourselves, we have to come to terms with it. Someone must protect the country,” Oleg Hryhoriuk emphasizes.
He also emphasized that there are both state and private port companies in Ukraine, and the main problem of dockers is to force private companies to insure their workers.
“It’s not easy, but we have to prepare employers how to act in a situation where an employee is injured or killed. We believe that in this case the company should pay the insurance. In the event of an attack, it is difficult for port workers to get off the crane and get to the shelter. Employers say that there is no such insurance, but we must fight for it,” the head of MTWTUU emphasized.
It will be recalled that on November 8, 2023, as a result of a Russian attack on the infrastructure of the “Pivdenny” port, first-class pilot Serhii Surin died while performing official duties. By Decree of the President of Ukraine No. 16/2024, he was awarded the Order “For Courage” III degree, posthumously.
