Compensation for the transit of Ukrainian grain to Baltic ports will amount to 600 million euros

600 million euros are needed to compensate the cost of the transit of Ukrainian grain to ports on the Baltic Sea.

The European Commission has still not decided whether to extend the ban on the import of Ukrainian grain to 5 EU countries, which expires on September 15, the European Commissioner for Agriculture, Janusz Wojciechowski, reported, Interfax-Ukraine writes .

“If this ban is not extended, we will have problems,” he said.

To prevent a possible crisis on the EU grain market in the context of trade with Ukraine, Wojciechovsky proposed to subsidize the transit of Ukrainian grain to Baltic ports at the level of 30 euros/ton.

The sum of 600 million euros will come from the EU budget. The condition for their allocation will be the obligation of Ukraine to find a recipient of its goods in third countries.

The European Commissioner explained that Ukrainian grain remains in Europe, because the cost of transportation through Baltic ports to third countries is too high. After all, third countries prefer to buy cheaper Russian grain.

Therefore, according to the commissioner, EU assistance to Ukraine in the form of a subsidy for transport costs is the best solution at the moment.
