Dredging in the Port of Izmail is 90% complete
In the port of Izmail, the work on the restoration of the passport depths has almost been completed.
So far, more than 90% of the plan has been completed, reports the Ukrainian Seaport Authority.
In parallel, dredging works are also being carried out in other seaports located on the Danube. In particular, works in the water area of Reni port are in the active phase. To date, 19% of the planned volume has been completed there.
Work in the operational water areas of seaports is planned in such a way as not to slow down cargo handling.
Currently, transportation market participants are creating demand for increasing the transit potential of Ukrainian ports on the Danube. Dredging will optimize the logistics of strategic export-import and will increase the volume of cargo transshipment, AMPU is confident.
In the summer, the Danube River began to shallow as a result of heat and drought. Caravans of ships were to be loaded in Izmail at a minimum draft of 1.8-1.9 meters. In the first and third decades of August, there were small rises in the water levels in the Danube, which slightly improved the situation. However, the problem of shallow water remained relevant.
