DTEK imported LNG from the USA by sea via Lithuania for the first time (video)

DTEK, through its trading company D.TRADING, has delivered the first cargo of liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States via Lithuania.
After regasification, these volumes will be sent to Ukraine, the Baltic countries, Poland and other markets in Eastern Europe, DTEK said.
The consignment was loaded onto the Gaslog Houston vessel in Plaquemines, Louisiana — DTEK’s first purchase on FOB (free on board) terms. The company provided chartering and transportation from Louisiana to the Lithuanian terminal in Klaipeda.
On November 17, the vessel delivered 160,000 cubic meters of cargo, equivalent to approximately 100 million cubic meters of natural gas or 1 TWh (terawatt-hour) of energy.
According to DTEK estimates, Ukraine needs to import approximately 4 billion cubic meters this winter following Russian attacks on gas production infrastructure and underground storage facilities.
The company is negotiating to import additional shipments of American LNG to Europe using both the Northern Corridor and the southern Vertical Gas Corridor, which starts in Greece and passes through Bulgaria, Romania, Moldova and Ukraine.
DTEK CEO Maksym Timchenko noted that through terminals in the Baltic and Mediterranean, DTEK’s seafarer is working with European and American partners to develop cost-effective routes for delivering gas to Ukraine and neighboring countries.
Lithuanian Energy Minister Žygimantas Vaičiūnas commented: “After the brutal Russian attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, Lithuania reacted quickly — LNG cargo is already heading to Ukraine. The Klaipeda terminal is one of the busiest and most efficient in Europe, and at the same time it provides an opportunity to help Ukraine — through it we can ensure gas supplies and strengthen the energy security of our partners.”
As a reminder, in 2024, DTEK signed a contract to import LNG from the United States. Deliveries will continue at least until the end of 2026.
