DTEK plans to import LNG: first contract may be signed in April

Ukrainian energy holding DTEK is in talks with suppliers of liquefied natural gas (LNG).
The company expects to sign the first contract in the coming months, Liga reports.
DTEK is looking for medium- and long-term contracts to ensure stable imports of LNG. A two-year agreement is currently being discussed, as well as possible contracts for 10-20 years with producers from the Middle East.
According to DTEK CEO Maksym Timchenko, Ukraine can become an active importer of LNG, using its gas storage facilities to store the resource.
The main potential suppliers are American companies, but options from the Middle East are also being considered. DTEK plans to import one LNG shipment every month, which will be an important step for a newcomer to this market.
Among the possible supply routes are terminals in Poland, Lithuania, Croatia and Germany.

In 2024, DTEK signed a preliminary agreement with the American Venture Global for the supply of LNG from Louisiana. The first cargo of American gas arrived in Ukraine in December through an import terminal in Greece. Since Ukraine does not have its own LNG infrastructure, the company used swap transactions to supply the resource through the European system.
