Due to sanctions, 50 Russian oil tankers are stuck around the world

Due to the strengthening of sanctions by the USA, Great Britain and the EU, Russian oil tankers are forced to stand still at sea.

Dozens of Russian tankers are idle at sea due to Western sanctions, Bloomberg  reports.

The West began to strengthen sanctions against Russia from October 2023. Some vessels were restricted due to violations of the oil price ceiling, and some due to belonging to the Russian state-owned company Sovcomflot.

Since October, 53 vessels have been sanctioned. Almost all of them have not been able to transport any cargo since then.

Idle ships have accumulated in various places around the world. For example, six tankers are at anchor in the Baltic Sea, four more were seen at the exit from the Black Sea.

It is also known about five tankers that have been anchored in the ports of Vladivostok and Kozmino for months. Two more vessels are idle between Russia and Japan. Another nine ships were “idle” watching off the coast of China and South Korea.

And in the north of the Suez Canal, near Port Said, there are at once eight tankers that have come under sanctions.

Only three of the 53 sanctioned vessels have been able to load oil since being placed on the restricted list.

The US Treasury is proposing to gradually impose sanctions on Russian vessels, but the White House fears rising oil prices.

Earlier, USM reported that the US Treasury proposes to introduce sanctions against Russian vessels gradually, but the White House is afraid of rising oil prices.
