Estonia wants to prematurely stop all imports of oil products from russia
Estonia plans to stop importing russian oil products until the end of the transition period established by the European Union.
Also, Estonia will introduce a ban on the transit of oil and oil products from russia from December 5.
This was stated by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia, Urmas Reinsalu, in an interview with Postimees newspaper.
“Estonia will introduce the ban from the beginning of December, and I hope the government will support the resolution on Thursday,” the minister said.
He noted that the EU has established a transitional period for the introduction of sanctions on the import and transit of russian oil and oil products. The transition period ends in February next year. Currently, the export of products from russia to Estonia continues.
“Estonia’s position has always been to end this as soon as possible,” Reinsalu said, adding that Estonia could initiate a reduction in the transition period at the European level.
In addition, the minister said that he sent a proposal to the European Commission on the introduction of a new package of sanctions against the Russian Federation and, in particular, “energy” sanctions on Russian gas and oil.
