EU increases pressure on Russia’s “shadow fleet”: oil exports fell by 30%

The EU has already imposed restrictions on more than 550 vessels and is negotiating with the flag states that register these tankers.

The EU is preparing new measures against the Russian shadow fleet, which is used to circumvent sanctions and transport Russian oil. This was stated by the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaia Kallas, writes Ukrinform.

The imposed restrictions have already shown an effect – the volume of crude oil exports from Russia has decreased by 30%, and the Kremlin’s tax revenues have fallen to the lowest level since the start of the full-scale war.

“The EU has a very clear plan – to weaken Russia and support Ukraine. The data we have received shows that Russian crude oil exports are at their lowest in recent months. Sanctions are working – and there will be more of them,” Kallas emphasized.

She also emphasized that Brussels seeks to strengthen the sanctions mechanism so that restrictions can be imposed promptly – without waiting for the adoption of the next package of sanctions.

“Our joint work with the United States and Great Britain has the greatest effect,” the head of European diplomacy added.

Also, as USM reported, the day before, the United States imposed new sanctions against Iran’s “shadow fleet.”
