EU increases quotas for Ukrainian agricultural products under new trade agreement

The trade liberalization covers more than 40 product lines and is aimed at strengthening cooperation despite pressure from individual member states.

The EU has agreed to increase import quotas for Ukrainian agricultural products as part of a review of the Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Area with Ukraine, Reuters reports.

The agreement covers 40 products and is part of a broader package of decisions that should regulate trade conditions amid temporary autonomous trade measures introduced in 2022 after the full-scale invasion by Russia. In June 2024, these measures were extended for another year, with the introduction of new quotas for wheat, barley, corn and honey.

This time, the import quota for wheat increased from 1 million to 1.3 million tons. The EU also increased the allowable volume of sugar supplies from 20 thousand to 100 thousand. tons, barley from 350 thousand to 450 thousand tons, and poultry meat from 90 thousand to 120 thousand tons. The agreement still requires formal approval by a qualified majority of EU member states.

Also, the day before, USM wrote that Chinese companies had contracted almost 700 thousand tons of Ukrainian barley.
