Euronav will build two ammonia and methanol tankers
Euronav has signed an agreement with the Korean shipyard Daehan Shipbuilding for the construction of two Suezmax crude oil tankers.
Commissioning of the vessels is planned for the third quarter of 2024, the company notes.
The tankers will be equipped with scrubbers and a ballast water treatment system, and will be able to run on LNG, ammonia and methanol. The new vessels will be similar to the 157,300-ton deadweight crude oil tankers Cedar and Cypress, which were commissioned this year.
“The company managed to conclude a contract with a convenient delivery schedule. This is precisely the time when the sector needs to replace outdated vessels with more environmentally friendly ones,” notes Euronav.
Headquartered in Antwerp, Euronav is one of the largest tanker companies in the world. Euronav currently owns a fleet of 70 vessels.
