Grain cargo was the most transported in containers by rail this year


Grain accounted for 31% of cargo transported in containers by rail in the five months since the beginning of 2025.

In January-May 2025, the volume of cargo transported in containers amounted to 89,595 TEU, which is 24% less than in the same period in 2024. 55,528 TEU were transported in export traffic (or 62% of the total volume).

The main nomenclature of cargo for the five months of 2025 looks like this:

• grain cargo — 27,534 TEU or 31% (-8%);

• ferrous metals — 17,753 TEU or 20% (+5%);

• cake — 7,735 TEU, or 9% (+2%);

• oil — 6,835 TEU, or 8% (+2%).

As analysts note, of the total volume of loaded containers transported by rail across the territory of Ukraine, 15% was transported by the rolling stock of the branch “Transport Service Center “Lisky” of JSC “Ukrzaliznytsia”. Compared to the same period in 2024, the share decreased by 13%.

Earlier, USM reported that the ports of Odesa and Chornomorsk accuse Ukrzaliznytsia of tariff discrimination.
